TOEFL iBT 61–80 or IELTS 6.0–6.5 for Bachelor's degrees, TOEFL 80–100 or IELTS 6.5–7.0 for Master's degrees. For top universities — TOEFL 100+.
For a Bachelor's degree — a secondary school certificate and often SAT/ACT. For a Master's degree — a Bachelor's diploma, often GRE/GMAT. Document package: passport, diplomas with translation, language certificate, essays, references, proof of funds.
Proof of funds for the entire first year of study.
Applications through the Common App or directly to the university. Deadlines: early — November, regular — January–February.
Obtain an offer and Form I-20, pay the SEVIS fee, complete the DS-160 and attend an interview at the embassy.
Up to 20 hours per week on campus. Off campus — after the first year, with permission.
18 months out — choosing a university. 15 months out — preparing for TOEFL and SAT. 12 months out — taking the exams. 10 months out — gathering documents, writing essays. 8–9 months out — submitting the application. 5–6 months out — receiving the I-20. 3–4 months out — applying for the visa. 1 month out — visa and flight.
