
Spain is a popular destination: affordable tuition, strong programmes in economics, tourism, architecture and the arts, and a warm climate.
A long-stay student visa (type D) for programmes of 90 days or more. Within 30 days of arrival, you must obtain a TIE card.
For Spanish-language programmes — DELE or SIELE at B2 level, and C1 for some specialisations. For English-language programmes — IELTS 6.0–6.5 or TOEFL 75–90.
For a Bachelor's degree you need a secondary school certificate and to pass the Selectividad entrance examinations (EvAU/PCE). For a Master's degree — a Bachelor's diploma. Document package: passport, diplomas with translation, language certificate, motivation letter, references, proof of funds, medical insurance.
Applications through the UNED portal or directly to the university. Deadlines for the autumn semester — April–June. The Selectividad examinations are mandatory for international applicants.
Obtain an offer from the university, apply for the visa at the embassy (in person). After arrival, obtain a TIE.
Up to 20 hours per week (a permit is required).
12 months out — choosing a university. 10 months out — preparing for DELE or IELTS. 8 months out — gathering documents. 7 months out — preparing for Selectividad. 6 months out — registering for Selectividad. 5–6 months out — taking the exams and submitting the application. 4 months out — receiving the offer. 3 months out — applying for the visa. 1 month out — visa and flight.
A low level of Spanish. Failing to take the Selectividad. Incorrect documents for the exams. Missing deadlines. Late processing of the TIE.
